Vintage Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) PDP-11 Training System
We have 10 of these so the one you see may not be the exact one you get.

Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) PDP-11 training system, used for hands-on instruction in industrial and academic settings. This unit was designed to teach the operational principles and hardware maintenance of the iconic PDP-11 minicomputer architecture.

The system is housed in a heavy-duty, rolling equipment rack, making it a portable and self-contained learning station. Its primary components include:

  • Operator Control Panel: The front panel features a variety of switches, buttons, and lights, replicating the interface used to control and monitor a classic PDP-11 system. This includes controls for power, diagnostics, and various I/O functions.

  • Integrated Electrical Components: The unit contains an assortment of electrical components, including relays, contactors, and terminal blocks, providing a clear visual representation of the internal wiring and control logic of a complex system.

  • Industrial Motor: A robust, three-phase Delco electric motor is mounted at the base. This motor was likely used in conjunction with the control panel to demonstrate motor control, power management, and industrial automation principles.

  • Modular Design: The rack's modular design allows for easy access to all components, making it ideal for educational purposes, restoration projects, or as a unique display piece for a tech museum or collection.

This training unit is a significant piece of computing history, representing a tangible link to the era of minicomputers that paved the way for modern computing. It would be a valuable addition for collectors, historical preservation groups, or educational institutions interested in vintage technology.
